Got home and cut the last u-bolts off. The axle is completely separated from the leaf springs. It looks like someone cut the threaded the shock mounts and welded a washer to the ends to hold the shocks. So those will have to be replaced. Now I just need to get those damned leafs off. It has become quite clear to me that this has never been taken apart and these bolts have all been in place since the 80's

Took some time to clean up and organize. Put the bed on my creeper and slid it over into the corner. Put the chest in there to hold parts and my keg/future gas tank on top next to the previous tank.

I'm not sure if I should put the old tank on cl. It's a 5.5 gallon marine tank and is basically ready to dispense gas into your engine. Shoot I can even include the pump since I won't be reusing it.

I never get rid of anything until the project is completed. You never know. I assume your avatar is your project?

Are you going to get new leafs? I would just swap a new rear end and suspension from the junk yard if I were you. You mentioned the frame was from the 80's- what was it originally?

I need to get new leafs. One is broken.

I'd love to get a slightly wider axle with discs at some point. For now I'm going to work with the axle and brakes I've got. The drums stop it and the parking brake holds it. I am currently looking at replacing the leafs, shocks, shock mounts and u-bolts.

The frame is from a 80 something s-10 with a carbed 4.3 v6. The vin is stamped on the frame under the cab until I take that it is mostly a guess.

I see a junk yard in your future. A new used axle would be cheap. The expensive part would be hooking up he brakes and getting a drive shaft that works.

There's always a junkyard in my future.
